this structure is variously described as a souterrain , a tumulus and an Ice House

It would perhaps be a burial mound - passage tomb (?)- from what date ..?
with a berm ( a bank ) around it

that somebody ( the Abbey ?) later has dug into to make into an IceHouse

... but a bit like calling Dowth a " gravel quarry " -
